Ui’-Tiki- A Popular Papua New Guinean Fashion Brand
Ui’-Tiki (pronounced oo-ee-tiki) is a growing Papua New Guinean (PNG) fashion brand in the South Pacific and the first PNG fashion retailer to move online and utilise an e-commerce platform to reach customers overseas and locally.
Initially starting off as a cottage business by a young stay at home mother, the brand has since grown into an established label both locally online and on ground through the new studio located in the Nation’s capital, Port Moresby. The Ui’-Tiki brand has been involved in both local and regional fashion events, such as the Pacific Fashion runway in Brisbane Australia, the annual Miss South Pacific Islands pageant as well as the recent APEC summit held throughout 2018 to name a few.
Although the business is heavily focused on ready to wear modern dresses, we also take pride in our rich heritage in PNG, a country known for it’s unique cultural diversity. As custodians of our traditional tattoos and stories, cultural preservation has already been at the core of what we do and our popular resort collections ANERU, ARiKu, Tinase and Tevila are inspired by our people from the beautiful Aroma Coast in the Central Province of PNG.
Fashion has always been an avenue where expression and creativity meet and we quickly recognised that it could also be an effective platform in allowing us to preserve our dying traditions like tattooing.
