The Power Of Breath – Positive Reflection Of The Week

Alia’s Message: ‘Never underestimate the power of your breath.’

Conscious Breathing is the key to your physical, emotional, energetic, and spiritual well-being. It is the key to your creativity, your intuition, and living authentically.

There is something about Conscious Breathing that changes our mindset. We notice more clarity, less reaction, more response. We can deal more effectively with stress. We feel happier, more hopeful. We start to see the best in the world and others. We can see the potential for positive change, and what’s more, we want to be a driving force in that.

There are so many different things that you can do to change your life, but the simplest and most effective is literally changing the way you breathe.

For example, when you are stressed out you may notice that you breathe faster and more into the chest. When you are relaxed you breathe at a slower rate and more into your belly.

So, if you are feeling stressed and you notice this poor breathing pattern, you can quickly go into a relaxed state by simply changing your breathing pattern. Here is a quick breathwork exercise that you can adapt anywhere.

Sit comfortably, and place one hand on your belly and one on your chest. Now notice when you breathe, which hand moved first. Your aim is to ensure you are breathing from your diaphragm (belly) and not your chest. Once you have
mastered this, now focus on getting your breath into a rhythm: 4 counts in, 4 counts out. Practice this for about 3 mins. Notice a difference?

There are several Benefits of Conscious Breathing which include, but are not limited to, Rest and Relaxation, Renewed Energy, Longevity, Detoxification, Cleansing.

There are also many forms of breathwork therapy often borrowed from the Yogic Breathing Techniques and include: Anulom Vilom (Alternate nostril breathing), Bhastrika (Bellow breathing), Kapalbhati (Rapid forced exhales while pulling in the abdomen), Ujjayi breath (constricting the throat to slow down and control airflow in and out of the lungs).

Never underestimate the power of your breath. Whenever your mind becomes scattered, use your breath as the means to take hold of your mind again!
