Local Aid- Help Us Educate And Empower Our Children- "We Are Human"

How It All Started

I sponsored a little girl from Kenya when I was 15 years old and ever since then, it’s been my life-long dream to visit Africa to do some humanitarian work. Even though I was traveling the world as a Fashion Designer and had a wardrobe that most of my friends would die to own, something was still eating me up inside. I didn’t want to be just happy, but to matter. To make a difference in the world. To know I put a smile on a child’s face was the satisfaction I was craving and the liberation I was seeking and in all honesty as I evolved that was still not enough. What use is a smile if it cannot be sustained? It needed a foundation. I wanted to provide opportunities that taught values, created sustainable lifestyles and empowered beyond foreign financial dependency. I created LocalAid so that money invested, is money well directed.

Donate To Educate

LocalAid has been working in Kenya for 10 years and one of our main goals is to empower former street children through education. The right to a quality education is just one of the rights that street children are denied. Yet education is the most effective way to enable street children to reintegrate into society. We have educated 84  children, eight of which have graduated from high school and one who is attending university this year.

However, as with all growth, sustainability has become an issue because of various factors, one of them being inflation. Since 2009, the inflation rate in Kenya has risen at a steady rate of 7% every year and in some years has gone as high as 11.99%. This has meant that we have had to go to incredible lengths to make sure we provide the service that we do with the resources that we have.Another factor is incidentals; this includes medical care, school trips, need for uniforms, textbooks, stationary writing materials etc.

We need your help to raise the fees and other education costs for 40 children this year.
