Knowing & Doing! – Positive Reflection Of The Week
Knowing & Doing Are Two Separate Practices – Article by Shahwana
“To know the way and not practice is to be a soup ladle in the pot and not taste the flavour of the soup.” – Jack Kornfield
We may have attended many seminars with motivational speakers, and perhaps also attended many sessions on meditation, self-empowerment programs. And after all the efforts we have put in learning and trying to improve our lives, many of us find ourselves in the same boat with the same problems and life continues this way. Why would this be a reason for hundreds of people, or maybe even thousands? We attend such seminars to feel good or maybe somebody paid for these seminars for us, and we just attended because it was available. Have you looked back at the notes of what we learnt? What part of this have we put into practice? And, if we have, has our life improved? If the answer is yes, for sure you’re on the right track, however, if the answer is maybe or no, then there are certain things perhaps we need to know. Revisit those notes and put it into practice. To know something is great, to practice is another. Sometimes procrastination, laziness, lack of understanding or lack of faith, keeps us away from the practice.
How about today, we make certain changes and say today is the day I will make my life better and put into action what I learn. And, if you’re still procrastinating on attending such seminars and life empowerment sessions, this is your time to make that effort forward.
Even simple things, like driving a car, needs practice, and once it’s done you become better and better every day. If you want to make your life better, then put your skills into practice.
Don’t play it until you get it right, play it until you can’t play it wrong.
Isn’t ‘practice makes perfect’, a quote?
After a long time of practising, our work will become natural, skilful, swift, and steady.
“I fear not the man who has practised 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practised kick 10,000 times.” Here is an old quote from a famous martial artist, Bruce Lee.
