Earth-based practises are ideal for when you are feeling scattered, flighty, or overly reactive. Earth is good for settling chaotic energy and gathering it together so that it can be released more easily.

The most basic and common practise is to keep a Crystal or two (or a few) in your pocket to touch whenever you need grounding. The type of stone used can influence the flavour of the grounding. For example, black tourmaline is well-known for its ability to protect and shield against negative energies, whereas amethyst is frequently used to promote relaxation and inner peace.

Additionally, Salt, also a Crystal, is such a good energetic and aura cleanser. Aside from taking Salt Baths, you can use salt as a natural cleanser to help remove any stagnant or negative energy from your surroundings, resulting in a more harmonious and balanced environment.

Have you hugged a tree? Even if it has become a joke in some circles, hugging or leaning against (as well as sitting or standing beneath) a tree is a very powerful way to clear negative energy. A tree feels powerful and wise, with its roots deeply embedded in the earth and its branches reaching for the sky. Connecting with a tree can help us reconnect with nature and find peace and tranquilly. The gentle swaying of its leaves in the breeze, as well as the rustling sound it makes, can be extremely soothing, making it a truly rejuvenating experience. If you don’t have access to a tree, simply going outside and touching the ground will suffice.

You may have noticed that holding, stroking, or playing with your pet can be very calming. This is because physical contact with pets has been shown to release oxytocin, a hormone associated with stress reduction and relaxation. Furthermore, caring for a pet can provide a sense of purpose and companionship, which contributes to its calming effects. However, exercise caution when engaging in this practise. Interact with the pet to release the energy, but do not let it go. Instead, once you’ve calmed down, combine this activity with something like mountain pose or breath work to release and expel any negative energy.

This next clearing technique may appear strange, but it is one of the most effective I know: napping! When the energy of the mental or emotional bodies is high, being conscious can be counterproductive. It is simple to feed obsessive thinking or stoke already heightened emotions as long as your mind can keep spinning stories. Napping allows your mind and body to relax, which helps to relieve stress and tension. It can also improve cognitive function and overall mood. So, in your clearing routine, don’t underestimate the power of a good nap!
