Light For Life: Illuminating Gareth’s Legacy & Lighting The Way For Wildlife
A little over a year ago, Gareth Jones, a cherished friend of many, a doting father to Eirlys & loving husband to Tarris, passed away, leaving behind a profound impact, on the conservation community. Gareth’s passion for wildlife and unwavering support for FONNAP and Nairobi National Park earned him admiration and respect from all who knew him. Today, the long-awaited Memorial Boma stands as a heartfelt tribute to Gareth’s memory.
Situated near the park boundary, this secluded boma had experienced losses of over twenty livestock throughout the years. In honour of Gareth’s spirit and dedication, the goal was to protect Francis Lenayian’s animals and provide them with a secure sanctuary. While Francis made every effort to protect his livestock, recent encounters with a lone lioness presented challenges.
Thanks to the ingenious initiative of David Mascall, the founder of Light For Life, a special project to install Lion Lights was undertaken—a noble endeavour to reduce nighttime predator attacks on livestock and foster harmony between humans and wildlife near Nairobi National Park. This was only made possible by the generous contributions of three amazing individuals, along with the support of the founders of H&S Magazine Kenya, under David’s guidance. In just three hours, the boma was transformed into a secure haven for Francis’ animals, safeguarding them from potential predators. The installation of the Memorial Boma dedicated to Gareth Jones, has now become a lasting symbol of love, respect, and remembrance, ensuring Gareth’s legacy continues to inspire action, & that his passion for conservation lives on.
