He Said He Needs His SPACE! – H&S Love Affair

Your Man Asks For Space: What Does It Mean & What Should You Do?

When a man says he needs his space, women hear ‘I am not interested, leave me alone’. When in fact there’s really no need to panic. Asking for space isn’t a bad thing at all, and it isn’t necessarily synonymous with the words ‘I am losing interest’ or ‘I am not in love with you anymore’. Men think, process and experience things differently & believe it or not ‘wanting space’ is a natural coping mechanism for most men, as wanting the support and advice from friends is for most women. So when he asks for his space, it actually has little if anything at all, to do with you and more to do with him.

4 Reasons Men Need Their Space & What You Should Do:

1. He Is Stressed- Women cope and react differently to stress. For men, they don’t talk about their problems and believe in solving issues themselves. However, unable to resolve issues can be daunting to men. In order to cope with his stress, the common thing to do, is to take some time to himself to figure things out.

What To DO? It’s typical for a woman to force a man to talk about his issues, depriving of his ME time. This is the worst thing a woman can do. If he has asked for space, let him be. Let him take his time to process and cope with whatever stress he is facing. Once he feels better, he may or may not talk about it, but he will definitely appreciate you for letting him have his much-needed space.

2. He Feels Unappreciated Or His Needs Aren’t Being Met- Unlike women, men find it hard to communicate their emotions. This ‘lack of communication’ can lead to ‘pushing away’ & wanting space.

What To DO? The good thing is, you can help in this situation, by asking him what you can do more of to make him feel good. Chances are he will tell you. If he does, just be a good listener because that is what he needs. Checking on each other, making sure you are both happy and feel loved is important for a long term healthy relationship.

3. He’s Freaking Out- As a relationship get more and more serious, a lot of men worry that the woman will start controlling his ‘life’ as soon as commitment is made. This fear of having to make serious changes and saying goodbye to men’s night out etc can be daunting. This fear could be because his friend has a super needy girlfriend who doesn’t leave the friend alone for a minute.

What To DO? Give him his space to maintain his own life, let him know he’s his own boss. Once you allow him the freedom to hang out with his friends and play his video games when he needs to zone out, he will forever cherish you.

4. He Needs To Recharge- Even married men need their space now and then. This doesn’t mean he is losing interest. All it means, is he needs some time to recharge, as some time apart keeps the relationship fresh and rewarding.

What To DO? Encourage having time apart to do what you and your man love, but ‘separately’. Distance makes the heart grow fonder and for sure, for every time he goes out for a man’s night out, he will be thinking of you.
