Go For A Get-Away!!!!!- Article by Gareth Jones

It’s Time To “Go For A Get-Away” Moment!

In the modern madness of the Nairobi megacity, it is so easy to become over-burdened with the burdens of the multiple issues and events that happen constantly, to the point where overload happens and people behave in ways that are definitely not normal. It is never good to let issues get to the point where a person gets very stressed to the point where their personal health and wellbeing is negatively affected. Over a prolonged period of time, it is possible to be tired down in a repetitive work cycle of busy-busy-busy.

I call this “busy buzz” syndrome, and it is especially concerning if extended stress results in “burn out”. We all get infected with “Busy Buzz” syndrome at times, the cure remedy I often take is not ingested through the mouth, but rather through the eyes, nose, ears and touch as our natural senses are influenced by experiencing the God created wonders of nature. It is good practice to make a decision to “Go for a Get-away” moment, irrespective of the seemingly heavy workload and burdens affecting your current reality. Nairobi is wonderfully unique in that the priceless gem that is called the Nairobi National Park, is virtually almost on the “doorstep” of those who reside in Nairobi.

When visiting the Nairobi National Park, I then choose to let go and experience the flora and fauna around me, so that my innermost being is touched supernaturally, especially when I pray and ask God. I call the cure remedy my “Bush Buzz” or “Soul tonic”. Sometimes, it is very therapeutic to just sit in a quiet place and listen to the sounds of nature. One beautiful, fresh morning, after watching a spectacular sunrise over the plains. I then decided to park in one of my favourite places, in a small forest glade near the edge of the Langata forest section of the park and the beginning of the grasslands. Sitting quietly with the vehicle switched off, I sat and listened to the sounds around me. It was really wonderful to have such a variety of so many bird calls, that were so soothing to my weary soul, like a symphony of songbirds singing in natural unison like a magnificent feathered orchestra. Some sounds echoed in the distance, while other species were close and clearly audible, and even visible. For me, this is also the perfect time to pray and spend time seeking God. I always find it a joy to see many species of birds when driving in the park, creation has so such amazing diversity. It can be very therapeutic to escape from this fast and furious world for a moment, find a quiet place, and let our feathered friends, sing for our souls. It is truly a “soul tonic” or a “dawa” for your innermost being.

There are many places to escape to experience nature. Many of us are fortunate that the Nairobi National Park is situated right next to Nairobi, allowing people to “escape” the city madness quite easily to this living green place of refuge. Slow down and look for the really small things, or just sit quietly in a place of beauty, to often rewarded with unusual and special sightings.

Remember this “when we look for the smallest we can also see the largest”, from bees to rhinos..etc, take time out and come to explore the wonders of the Nairobi National Park. So what is your current buzz? It is so special when you can “escape” to the park with a serious case of stressed out “Busy Buzz”, and then unwind to eventually leave, returning home with the warm healing feeling of the “Bush Buzz” that I also call “Soul Tonic”. I honestly believe that God created the wonders of nature for mankind to also enjoy and appreciate. The choice is yours, “Busy buzz” or “bush buzz”? Go on then, why not make your decision? It’s time to “Go for a get-away” moment!
