6 Fun Eid Activities To Try With Your Children At Home This Eid al-Adha 2020!

Yes, we are going to be celebrating Eid al-Adha 2020 at home. This Eid is all about sacrifice and even though it won’t be celebrated in the same way as it is every year, it doesn’t mean the kids can’t have fun. It may be a little different as your kids won’t be able to interact with the neighbour’s kids for example, but remember they have ‘you’ i.e. their parents to celebrate with. So, why not make it fun & use this time to bond with your children rather than complain about the situation and get them stressed too. After all, you get to spend Eid at home with the people you love the most including your favourite little humans! There are many activities you can do with your children within the safety of your home. Below is a list of fun activities that we have picked for you to try at home this Eid al-Adha 2020, with your children!

1. Decorate Your Home-

How is Eid celebrated without decoration? Even better get the kids involved to help decorate the home and get in the spirit of celebrating this auspicious occasion. Every kid is fascinated by stars and moon and in Islam, they have a very special place. All you need is some old magazines, stencils & glitter glue. If your kids are too young to draw and cut you can help them with this and they can just help by adding some sparkle to the cutouts i.e. by adding glitter on top of the cut stars and moon. You can even hang them around the house with the help of some string. You can do this with sheep by making a sheep stencil and instead of glitter you can use cotton and paint the eyes and ears. Use your imagination and get creative with your kids.

2. Make Some Eid Cards-

Wishing Eid Mubarak is customary. What better way to wish each other than with some amazing Eid cards. You can do this with your kids all you need is some card paper, cotton wool, glitter and stencils to create something amazing. For sheep use cotton wool, for stars and moon use glitter and you can also make the Holy Kabah designs. There are so many ways of creating some amazing Eid Mubarak cards.

3. Make Desserts Together

This week our chef, Chef Raphael has an extremely easy-to-make trifle recipe that’s healthy and delicious. You can even get the kids to help you make this dessert. Remember whilst baking or cooking keep your eyes on your kids and give them age-appropriate things to do!

4. Help Them Share The Joy-

fun eid activitiesThis Eid is all about sacrifice. Teach your child what Eid al-Adha is about and help them share the joy with less fortunate. From the animal sacrifice, a third of the portion is kept in the house, a third given to friends and relatives and another third to the poor. Involve your child in giving something from their share to teach them about the spirit of Eid. Maybe they can give some of their sweets and gifts to someone less fortunate or make food donations to an orphanage or shelter. This is not just a fun activity for your child but it also helps inculcate the true meaning of Eid.

5. Make Your Own Games ‘Eid Treasure Hunt’-

fun eid activitiesKids love to play & why not create your own games such as an Eid Treasure Hunt where the whole family can participate. You could have clues to help the kids find the hidden treasure which could be some delicious sweet treats or toys keeping the theme in mind. Remember the longer the game goes on for the more fun it is!

6. Virtual Exchanges Of Eid Greetings-

fun eid activitiesWhether you are living in the same country or scattered around different parts of the world, the kids will definitely be missing their families such as their grandparents or maternal/paternal cousins. What better way to get the kids to feel the spirit of Eid, than by arranging a Zoom or Whatsapp video call. This way even though everyone’s celebrating in their own houses at least they get to feel closer through technology.
