Fostering Vs Adopting! – H&S Pets Galore

Want To Adopt?

Many a time you may have heard the terms fostering and adopting being used interchangeably. But did you know these two terms are very different! Fostering is the temporary arrangement whereby you bring in a fur baby into your home give it love, look after it and nurture it for a predetermined time or until it finds its furever home i.e. until it gets adopted. Adoption is the permanent, long term solution whereby the fur baby becomes a permanent member of your furmily. In both instances, you are responsible for the wellbeing of the fur baby whilst it is under your care.

Reasons For Fostering-

There may be many reasons as to why foster care may be needed until a permanent solution is found. Some of the common reasons include:

1. There May Be No Physical Shelter Available- Either a rescue group may not have this facility or the physical shelter may be overwhelmed, for these reasons the fur baby may need to be under foster care until a permanent home is found.

2. Too Young To Be Adopted- Puppies and kittens require a lot of care when they are young. Sometimes babies come in as young as a few days old and they require special care and attention which not every pet lover can be able to give. For this reason, they are kept in foster homes until they come of an age where they can be given up for adoption.

3. Too Weak, Sick Or Stressed- Sometimes these animals may have suffered an injury for which they require medical and/or surgical procedure after which they still may not be well enough to be taken care of. They require a safe and secure space for them to completely recover and this space is usually a foster home.

Remember fostering is a full-time job that is extremely rewarding. The furbabies that are usually given up for fostering are in need of “temporary” special care and require a lot of time, patience and unconditional love, knowing that you are not going to be with them furever. Not only do you do all that but you also free up space for another potential life to be rescued and taken care of. Having said that adopting a fur baby furever is the best feeling in the world, as you help find a permanent home and save a life for good. So are you ready to adopt a fur baby & give it a furever home?
