Building & Keeping A Healthy Relationship – H&S Love Affair

How To Build & Keep A Healthy Relationship?healthy relationship

It is no secret that every relationship comes with its own set of ups and downs & requires a lot of patience, commitment, sacrifices & not just ‘love’ alone to work. Whether it’s a new relationship or one that has been going on for years a lot of hard work is needed to build & keep a healthy relationship.

If you want your relationship to be healthy then you need to keep a few things in mind:

1. Have a common goal on how you both want your relationship to be- Sit down together and talk about couple goals i.e. as a couple where do you want this relationship to go?

2. Deep & honest conversations with a meaningful emotional connection are needed & at all times no secrets must be kept from one another- Establishing deep & honest conversations with your partner is imperative to maintaining a healthy relationship. If you don’t communicate how are you to live harmoniously? To have a meaningful relationship it’s necessary to be open and honest with one another and keep no secrets from one another. Remember, an emotional connection is important too, to have that meaningful & fulfilling relationship, after all, it’s all about feeling loved, valued and accepted for who you are and what you bring to the relationship.

3. Agree to disagree as a couple- Embrace conflict in your relationship, after all, you are two different individuals and you both won’t always see eye to eye on everything. It’s not about the conflict but about how you resolve it together without hurting each other using unacceptable words.

4. Do things that you both love and have your own ‘me-time’- It’s healthy to have your own time so you can grow outside your relationship and maintain your own individuality. Your time with your family and friends is important as they are a part of what makes you ‘You’. Don’t give that up and make sure you encourage each other to take some time out for whatever it is you individually enjoy doing.

5. Share your tasks- Don’t expect that it’s a woman’s birthright to do all the cooking and cleaning. If you enter into a relationship keeping an open mind and willingness to share the tasks whether it’s household chores or helping each other with work, your relationship will be healthy.

Remember falling in love is easy as it just happens but staying in love and preserving that healthy relationship is the tough part. For a long-lasting meaningful relationship, couples need to commit a hundred and one per cent towards one another. A fruitful healthy relationship is one where you learn to accommodate each other by accepting one another fully and considering each other throughout the journey. Be respectful towards each other and always think of how you want to be treated by your partner, by doing so, you avoid using hurtful language and become more aware and mindful of your actions. Practice giving love and respect, and when you do, you will be receiving the same as a relationship is all about ‘give and take’ and balance. Keep your ego at bay, it should never be about ‘winning’ or being right all the time. If you find yourselves in conflict learn ways of resolving them respectfully. Lastly and most importantly whilst entering into a relationship enter with an attitude of expecting ups & downs as no relationship is a bed of roses, & at the same time come in with the attitude of 3 F’s i.e. being flexible, forgiving & fair as this will build and keep your relationship healthy.
