Back To School – Embracing The New Norm!
As schools reopen and the Covid crisis continues, parents are preparing to embrace themselves for yet another new norm. After a long break, some parents seem to breathe a sigh of relief as they can return back to work while others continue to worry with the decision that lies ahead! During the continued uncertain times, school safety and health are paramount but so is being equally calm and thoughtful. Remember it’s the responsibility of parents to also teach their kids how to be safe and take care of themselves & not to cause panic during the process.
Change is never easy! As we adapted to the new COVID-19 norm last year, the safety practices were at first tricky, keeping the mask on, avoiding touching the face, sanitizing, social distancing and so on. But now this practice has somewhat become a habit and second nature to most. Similarly, as schools continue to reopen and children return to their normalcy it’s going to be somewhat a challenge faced not just by the education bodies but also by parents and families at large. This said, now or later education must continue whilst hopefully proper measures are implemented.
Some of the measures practised Internationally, involve temperature checking, reinforcing regular hand washing & sanitizing, limiting the amount children are touching one another, increasing the distance between students, reducing attendance per day as well as the number of classes, disinfecting high-touch surfaces such as doorknobs and so on so forth. Having said that, parents actually have a major role in all of this. Respiratory etiquette that is sneezing or coughing into the elbow, hygiene and safe practices such as washing hands regularly and regular sanitizing and so on so forth should all be taught and practised at home.
With health and safety practices in place, and parents ongoing concerns being addressed, this new transition to ‘back to school’ may not be as much of a challenge!
Wishing & praying for the safety of all the children as they return back to school!
