Jonas Blue made his name with a 2015 cover of Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car,” channeling the sunset vibes of tropical house through a wistful, nostalgic lens. Those impulses shade much of the UK producer’s work, which dances delicately on the borderline between club music and pop. In “Mama,” trap snares bounce around glistening marimba melodies; his remix of Zedd & Alessia Cara’s “Stay” juggles melancholy hooks with a sleek, uptempo groove—a banger, no doubt, but unusually light on its feet. “Perfect Strangers” offers a similar mix: a pulse-quickening trip shaded by the memory of full-moon parties and beach kisses.
