4 Ways To Keep Your Sterling Silver Sparkly

Sterling silver is expensive but gorgeous & we all have silverware or silver jewellery that we absolutely love to show off! However, this comes with a price. The sterling silver can easily get tarnished when not taken care of! Now no one wants to show off their tarnished silver! Well fret not, we have 4 different methods you can try at home when we have run out of the silver polish! Are you ready to say bye-bye to tarnished silver!

Did you know you can use toothpaste to clean your precious silver? That’s right wet your silver with water take a toothbrush with a generous amount of toothpaste and rub it on the silver. You can leave the silver aside for a few minutes and then wash it off and voila you have sparkling silver again!

2. Baking Soda & White Vinegar-

Make a solution using 1/2 cup vinegar & 2 tablespoons of baking soda. Soak the silver in this solution for 2-3 hours, after which you can rinse and dry the silver!

3. Juice Of Lemon-

That’s right all you need is the juice of a lemon to make your tarnished silver sparkle again. Nothing more. You can cut a lemon in half and use it to scrub the silver, alternatively, you can squeeze the juice of lemons into a container and dip the silver in it. Then all you need to do is rinse and dry! Note: Using a half a lemon is recommended to avoid wastage!

4. Salt, Water, Baking Soda & Foil Method-

Now this works using simple chemistry! Take a glass dish & line it with foil (the shiny side facing up) & place the silver on the foil. Pour a cup of boiling water or more until the silver is immersed, then add 2 tablespoons of salt and baking soda. Gently stir this without scratching your silver until the baking soda dissolves. Leave silver in for 5-10 minutes and watch the tarnish disappear as a reaction occurs, which causes the tarnish to transfer to the aluminium foil. Drain out the water and rinse with water then dry off using a microfiber cloth.

2 Tips To Avoid Tarnishing Your Sterling Silver-

  1. Make sure you wash the silver and dry it immediately using a soft cloth.
  2. If possible use tissue paper to wrap your expensive silver jewellery or silverware.
