TNR Trust- The Looming Dog/Cat Problem
TNR TRUST
The Looming Dog/Cat Problem
Covid-19 is causing changes in the lives of people and animals. So many tea stalls, kiosks and even big hotels have closed down, there is much less food for scavenging, roaming, community-owned dogs and cats. If people have less food, then the animals will have less food, too. It’s also the start of puppy season. We are seeing many mamas with puppies brought to our attention. There will be more litters born in the next couple of months.
How can you help?
If you see an animal that is pregnant or with young and requires help, please report it to us, however, TNR Trust needs help from a team of volunteers from that area. This can be assistance fundraising, delivering food or getting a basic shelter made to keep mum and pups dry. TNR Trust will get our vet out to assess the Mama dog and the puppies. Once Mama has gained weight and is deemed healthy enough, she gets vaccinated and dewormed, same with the pups when they are old enough. Once pups are weaned we take the pups for further vaccinations/deworming and then rehoming. The mama dog will also be taken for spaying. Once recovered from spaying, she is returned to that area if at all possible. During our visits from the vet and other volunteers dropping off food, the owners or the business owners in that area are given information and encouraged to continue to provide water, shelter and a small amount of food if at all possible.
This is where animal lovers can assist, if you can help please contact us. We always need volunteers.
TNR Trust also has humane cat traps that we can loan out for feral cat issues or cats reproducing in your housing or office compound. TNR Trust can also help with a low cost or free spay/neuters for unowned, feral cats and street dogs.
