Ramadan- A Time To Re-birth Oneself – Positive Reflection Of The Week
Alia’s Message: ‘This Ramadan, Take The Opportunity To Go Deeper & Re-birth Your Soul.’
Ramadan Mubarak to all my friends and extended family!
Ramadan is the 9th month of the Islamic Calendar, it also takes 9 months for the birth of a new life.
Traditionally, the month of Ramadan has always been a time for Muslims to reflect on those less fortunate than themselves. It is the month during which the Muslim world reflects and gives thanks for everything it has been blessed with and, in turn, shares these blessings with others, regardless of faith.
This year Ramadan will be immensely challenging, worldwide. Yet, people of faith have always found ways of continuing to observe Ramadan in times of crisis. In fact, such times can be an opportunity to assess what is important in life, and help other people in whatever way we can.
Ramadan is not only about fasting, but it is also about something more significant: “Taqwa” – being conscious and cognizant of God.
It is about reforming one’s actions and seeking the Almighty’s forgiveness (also self-forgiveness). It is about discerning truth from falsehood (your true identity) and light from darkness (a positive outlook). it is about attaining honour and status with the Almighty (and also with yourself).
Ramadan is, therefore, discipline through hunger, and it is for this reason that the prophets and saints fasted often. That is why it is said that “hunger is the food of the righteous”.
Although this Holy Month of Ramadhan is all about Social Distancing, I would like to invite each one of us to take the opportunity to go deeper and re-birth your soul.
Let the worry and despair of yesterday be done away with, and do not spend time immersed in anxiety about what tomorrow holds. Instead, bring yourself to the present and take control of that which is now.
This Ramadhan, bring GRATITUDE to your table. Fill your plates with thanks for what we still have – love, our family, our friends, ourselves.
Serve up some FORGIVENESS, and begin with yourself. Forget all your past failures and harness learning instead.
Don’t forget to draw water from the well of POSITIVENESS. Take each day as it comes, and win. It doesn’t matter how small or big your victory is, as long as you remain positive in whichever situation.
And lastly, remember to SHARE. The core principle of Islam is helping our fellow human beings. Even though we are in the middle of a coronavirus outbreak, there are many ways we can practice this, whether that be donating to food banks, supporting local businesses or checking up on our neighbours.
I pray to the Almighty for the safety and well being of all of us.
“It’s your road and yours alone. Others can walk it with you but no one can walk it for you”
