Parenting With Love: The Importance Of Love Towards Your Child
The most important thing every child needs growing up, is love! Yes, that’s right! If you are a parent, and you’re reading this, then you must be wondering ‘but wait, that’s obvious!’. Surely, it may seem obvious, but when it comes to the practical aspect, parents get so involved in focusing on their child’s success, that they somewhat end up forgetting about the importance of love and affection. This leads to putting unnecessary pressure on the child, which may lead to stress & anxiety.
You must understand, children are like delicate flowers that require constant love. It doesn’t matter, what parenting technique you apply, because, honestly, there is no right or wrong, provided you do it with Love. Every parent has the same goal to see their child succeed, but as a parent, you mustn’t get caught up on just the ‘success’ part.
Love shouldn’t only be given when your child has achieved something, it should be constant. If a child thinks they need to be worthy of love, this can have a negative impact on their emotional growth. So then this begs us to the next question, why is love so important?
Love has a positive effect on their mental and physical health. It helps develop the brain and increases memory. Love creates a strong bond between the child and parent and helps the child feel secure, confident and less afraid. A child who is loved, performs better at school and has a better and brighter future.
How to show your child love?
As parents, there are many ways of showing love and affection to your child.
When the child is younger, it’s so much easier to show love through physical touch, such as by hugging, cuddling, holding hands and kissing. All of which make the child feel secure. As children grow older, it can get a little challenging. But that doesn’t mean you can’t hug or kiss your teen, for instance. You can have open discussions with an older child, letting them know you love them. Pay attention by listening to them, having healthy conversations with them, and showing interest in their school and lives. Encourage them to do what they love, and most of all if you are wrong admit and apologize, letting them know that it’s okay to falter as even adults make mistakes. Try to have fun with them and most importantly don’t have expectations, this way your child knows you love them unconditionally and will be there for them no matter what.
