Hummus & Pita Breadsticks – A Middle Eastern Recipe With A Twist
HUMMUS & PITA BREADSTICKS (SERVING FOR 6)
HUMMUS INGREDIENTS
1. 2 cups drained well-cooked or canned chickpeas (place into cold water to remove skin)
2. ½ cup tahini paste with some of its oil
3. ¼ cup olive oil, plus some for drizzling
4. 1 ½ tablespoon garlic paste
5. 2 teaspoons salt
6. 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
7. 1 tablespoon Tabasco sauce
8. 2 tablespoons lemon juice
9. ¼ teaspoon of cayenne pepper for garnish
10. Chopped Parsley for garnish
METHOD
STEP 1
Add all the ingredients listed 1 to 8 into a blender and blend until smooth, if required, you may add in some olive oil or liquid from the chickpeas to make it smooth. Adjust seasoning if need be.
STEP 2
Plate in a bowl and drizzle some olive oil and sprinkle some cayenne pepper and chopped parsley.
PITTA BREADSTICKS INGREDIENTS
1 cup water
1 teaspoon instant dry yeast
1 ½ cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon baking powder
Egg wash (1 egg whisked with some water)
Oregano to sprinkle over your breadsticks
METHOD
STEP 1
In a mixing bowl put in all the dry ingredients and mix well then add in your water and knead your dough well.
Rest for about 20-30 minutes.
STEP 2
Roll out your dough and shape into medium sized sticks then place them onto your baking tray. Egg wash your breadsticks & sprinkle some oregano on top of your breadsticks.
STEP 3
Preheat oven at 200 degrees and once heated place in your bread sticks and bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
STEP 4
Let the breadsticks cool down then serve with your hummus on the side.
