‘Empowering A Woman Is Empowering A Society’ – Positive Reflection Of The Week

Pauline’s Message: ‘Empowering A Woman Is Empowering A Society’

One day I got tired of living as a ‘Shadow’ and made up my mind to take up spaces and be the voice of young women living in the slums. Growing up in Kibera slums exposed me to challenges at an early age and I grew resilient.

At the age of 22, I was a single mother of 2 boys and a survivor of domestic violence from an early marriage. I was bitter with life, but my struggles made me tougher.

I admired the younger me. I desired to heal & all I wanted, was peace, but I couldn’t achieve all this without forgiving myself and thus I accepted to go on a healing journey & I took my mother’s advice; forgiveness is not for the other person but for you and yourself.

My first journey of healing was giving back to young girls in our village. I started a modelling academy for young girls aged 8 to 15, where I trained girls on confidence, catwalk skills as well as communication.

Each weekend I reminded them of how special and amazing they are, and with every step we made, I  was healing and gaining a new identity within me. I became more and more confident and finally believed in my dreams!

I took up a journey to heal and empower women to take up spaces in the little way they can. I believe change starts with your attitude, you don’t need to change a thousand but just one person at a time & the world will be a better place for women and everyone else to live in.

Empowering a woman is empowering a society! We all need to join hands and support women to genuinely rise up and speak in one authentic voice, as no one will understand us if we don’t speak out!!!

A message to all women in the world

You are beautiful
You are amazing
You are confident
You can do all things, as long as you set your mind to do it!
