CRISPY DEEP FRIED FISH WITH TARTAR SAUCE RECIPE
INGREDIENTS For The Fish
1 cup self-raising flour
1/2 cup cornflour
2 tsp salt and pepper to taste
1 tsp baking soda
1 cup of water
1 tsp vinegar
2 Nile perch fish fillet
100g all-purpose flour
1 whole lemon (for serving and garnish)
INGREDIENTS For The Tartar Sauce
1 cup mayonnaise
2 tsp capers
1 pc gherkin
1/2 onion
METHOD
STEP 1
For the fish batter, mix all the dry ingredients and finally the water and vinegar to make a thick batter.
STEP 2
For the tartar sauce, chop the capers and gherkins and onion and mix them into mayonnaise making sure you have the right balance of the mayo and the chopped ingredients.
STEP 3
To cook the fish, first season both sides with salt and pepper then dip it in flour, shaking off any excess, then dip in the batter.
STEP 4
Deep fry the fish in hot oil until it’s golden brown on both sides.
Serve hot with a salad or chips and tartar sauce on the side!
