Creation Is Absolutely Incredible; The Nairobi National Park – by Gareth Jones
After driving in the Nairobi National Park on over 4500 occasions, over many years, I remain in awe as to the incredibly wide range and creative detail of the flora and fauna species that occur. In fact, the more I explore and find out about the amazing diversity within the Nairobi National Park, the more I realize how little I actually know. It is as if every visit to the park somehow reveals something new and exciting to me, I never, ever get bored while exploring the park.
This natural wonder we call the Nairobi National Park is only 117 sq km plus the recently gazetted 2000 acres of sheep and goat land. It is indeed a relatively small area to support such a diverse range of species. I do not think there is another place on planet earth as unique as this place.
For example, let us consider the impressive range of bird species from tiny seed-eaters to many aquatic species to regal raptors and long-legged ostriches. It is interesting to note that such a small land area next to a Megacity can actually have up to 500 species of birds within the seasons of a year. Considering that there are about 10,000 species of birds worldwide and 1,134 confirmed species within Kenya over a nation size of 58,2650 square km, it is phenomenal that about 44% of the bird species that occur within Kenya are found on only 0.02% of the landmass of the nation. I personally do not think there is another place on earth with this range of bird species within such a small area.
People like to inquire and find answers to certain mysteries regarding life. One question that is asked by many people is…. How does all this happen to be here? It appears that there are two main thought groups attempting to answer this age-old question. Some people think that there was a “big bang” millions of years ago, and then somehow gases cooled and converged to solids and liquids, and then there was an evolutionary “soup” and then from that “soup” all living things simply evolved to be what they are today.
Another large group of people believe that all living things are the result of a wonderful controlled creative process with great intelligence and extreme detail, that only Almighty God could achieve. I personally believe that the Nairobi National Park is an absolutely amazingly incredible creation that God has positioned right next to the City of Nairobi for the benefit of mankind. The park is a priceless treasure, a wonderful place for people to “escape from the city”. A place to find time to relax and get out of the at times negative “city buzz” and get some positive “bush buzz” by finding rest and peace in natural surroundings while watching the behaviour of various creatures. It’s a place where individuals, friends and families can spend precious time together and experience the healing “soul tonic” that comes to many people who spend time in nature.
