I first learned of Gareth and his passion for Kenya's wildlife through HS Magazine following one of our safari trips to Kenya. My "bond" with Gareth and his passion for wildlife was instant - so much that he said and wrote resonated so strongly with me and my experince of all the wonderful sights and sounds that Kenya had provided me with over my many trips there to see and photograph wildlife.

RIP Gareth, your passing is a loss not just to youir family, to whom I extend my sincere condolences, but also to wildlife conservatrion and education in Kenya. You will be missed by so many people.

Tribute To Gareth: Forever In Our Hearts

Dear Gareth, to say you are loved and missed by many is just not enough,
For a man who loved God and preached kindness, writing this tribute is extremely tough!
I speak for all those who got the privilege to meet you and for those of us who knew you well,
That we'd all pretty much have the same stories to tell
About your passion for wildlife and all of God's creation big and small,
Is a beautiful testimony to one and all.
And even though your time on earth has come to an end,
Your work to keep the park greener and do justice for all who can't speak will continue my friend.
So this is just a temporary farewell,
For we shall meet again, but for now you must rest well!

I don't know of many who have had such a significant impact on so many lives, so all I can say is Gareth you were definitely special! Rest In Eternal Peace

Hassan & I will miss you but we have so many wonderful memories that we have captured including our trip to the NNP together!

We pray Tarris & Eirlys find solace and happiness knowing Gareth was loved, respected and will be cherished by so many!

A chance meeting on a flight to SA and Gareth sharing some of his many spectacular wildlife photos only inspired me to get my own camera and start capturing my own. His passion for wildlife and patience in waiting for the perfect moment to take a picture were both addictive and inspiring. Your passing is a great loss to humanity and wildlife alike. RIP Gareth knowing that you have inspired others!

We will miss seeing Gareth at KVC and around town. Gareth is an amazing man. His love for Jesus and God's creation inspired us to look for beauty and to 'run our race of life on this earth' with the joy of the Lord as our Strength ! He was a humble man while he lived among us during this lifetime. Now, he is crowned with the glory of His Lord, forever made a perfect man! (Your tributes made him sound nearly perfect, already 🙂 We miss him and look forward eagerly to joining Gareth in heaven . We can imagine his enthusiasm in discovering and enjoying all thae Christ's creative genius, must surely offer there (only previewed here on earth). He's probably planning all of the fantastic trips he'll take you on when you arrive there, NEVER to have to say, "Goodbye" again, (or get stuck in the mud??!. We will keep your family in our prayers. With love in Christ Jesus, Susan & Guy Rainsford

Dear Taris, Eirlys and the whole family, we send our deepest condolences. From Brad, Charmaine and all his Dale mates.

Hearty Condolences to Gareth's family. I met him 1st at the Nairobi national park. I loved how he did his game drives. A slow but sure game drive with patience I learnt a lot from him. He loved nature.

He was a conservationist dedicated to saving the wilderness especially Nairobi National Park

A great man has gone. One who will be missed by many. I think almost every time I have been in the park in the last couple of years I met him. He'd always stop for a chat and to exchange what we saw were.
May God give his sweet wife and daughter the strength they need during these trying times and may they be comforted by the knowledge that he touched many lives.

Its been over two years since I first met Gareth at Board handover meetings when as the incoming one, we took over from one he chaired. He was so so dedicated to the well being of NNP and all it beholds - ‘those who can not speak for themselves’ is the descriptive name he coined and always reminded us in FoNNaP to speak for nature! Gareth promoted NNP to all and at the smallest opportunity he encouraged, motivated and facilitated, especially the youth to join FoNNaP and be introduced to enjoy the marvel jewel that is NNP but also by extension, he saw the youth and indigenous people as the life blood that will continue to keep NNP Alive!
They say God comes for His best early and whilst gone too soon, there is no doubt that NNP and nature here on earth, have gained an angel in HEAVEN above where Gareth will continue to look over us! Sincere condolences to his family and friends… 🙏🏾 RIEP Gareth

Gareth always promised visitors that they would see amazing birds in Nairobi Park. Then he would pray for rhinos lions and the rest. His love and appreciation of wildlife was rare. All of us at WildlifeDirect send sincere condolences to his family and friends.

I hope heaven be similar to a pristine Nairobi Park, full of wildlife. RIP Gareth.

I can’t believe Gareth is gone! As a member of Friends of Nairobi National Park I was a regular reader of his articles, contributions & wit. I met him when he installed my DSTV 7107& even in that brief interaction he shared his love of wildlife, conservation & active care - he had just driven across Kibiko to look at the damage to the swamp where the SGR tunnel was being built. His intense & grave concern made me feel the wildlife were safe. And now he’s gone! Who will hold that concern now?

I will always miss the life of a great Wildlife Guardian.
He was a mentor to young people as he paved their way to FoNNaP membership. He always advocated for meaningful conversation projects to safeguard Nairobi National Park and we will live to do it right.
May Gareth's soul rest in eternal peace.
